It may come as no surprise that The Silverstone Classic is largest Classic Motor Racing Festival in the world. A mix of the now expected & special races each year, attracting well over 100,000 visitors for the 3 days of Historic Motorsport.
They have marked 50 years of the Ford Capri & 60 years of the Mini, made for some impressive grids. Not forgetting the very special 100 years of Bentley Motors, with made lovely cars in attendance. Over the 3 day weekend, 22 races were held around the full Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit to entertain the crowds of spectators. The Masters Historic Racing Series compete with Historic F1, Sports Cars & now Endurance Legends in their calendar.
Plenty to see off track too…
As ever there is plenty to see & do over these 3 days, both on & off the track. Many owners clubs attend the meeting bringing along their cherished cars to put on display. You can find anything from old car parts, models of yesteryear, magazine collections to motorsport memorabilia, in the tented merchandise village. Keep your eyes peeled for celebrity drivers around the paddock too.
My highlights of the Silverstone Classic…. I still can’t get away from the glorious noise the Masters Historic Formula One cars make. Sound is such an important part of motorsport, yes it is exciting to watch, but put your fingers in your ears & it’s just not quite the same! In previous years we had the Group C cars, now the Masters Endurance Legends have picked up the baton. Their Saturday late evening slot treats us to the spectacle of hard driving to light up those brake discs. Belching flames… oh & not forgetting the noise!!!
I hope you enjoy looking through this collection of photos from the meeting.
