Round Britain Tour 2017 – Brooklands Museum
I had a lovely morning today at Brooklands Museum near Woking. Today’s photography shoot involved stunning classic Rolls Royce Silver Ghosts taking part in the Round Britain Tour 2017.
The hours of restoration & loving care that went into these beautiful cars by their proud owners was very evident today. They were quite simply stunning. Chrome glistened, paintwork gleamed & glass sparkled all around Brookland Museum’s paddock. Many cars were over 100 years old & looked like they had just rolled from a showroom. I wonder how many of today’s cars will still be able to do that in 100 years from now?
Incredibly it wasn’t enough for these elderly statesmen of the Classic Car world to assemble ahead of their 17 day Round Britain Tour. 11 of them were to run up the famous Brooklands Test Hill. Starting at a gradient of 1:8 before it increases to 1:5 & finishing at 1:4. A test for some modern day machinery let alone century old mechanical engineering! His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent clearly enjoyed looking around the Paddock before waving the first car away up Test Hill.
Once the 11 cars had attempted Test Hill it was time for the cars to leave & start the Round Britain Tour proper. HRH Prince Michael of Kent driving the first car off for part of the first leg.
I hope you enjoy looking through this collection of some of my favourite photos from this very special event.
