2 Come Along at Once – Classic Cars Magazine

March 29, 2022

As photographers we get to shoot some amazing subjects but the other great part is seeing our images in print. I was really thrilled to have 2 come along at once in consecutive editions of Classic Cars Magazine.

The first out was the April issue featuring an in depth road test of the late F1 driver, Ronnie Peterson’s 1974 Lotus Elite. I met journalist Emma Woodcock at an auction house & after a quick look around the car we were off to the first location. We needed to get some panning drive-by shots safely in the bag early… you never quite know how long these old cars are will play along!!

A few passes down a quiet lane & shot 1 was in the bag
Off to the next location for artistic backgrounds
Some historic images of Ronnie with the car complimented Emma’s article.

The late afternoon sun really made the yellow paintwork ‘POP’ so we couldn’t resist a few more panning shots. The shooting brief completed, we headed back to return this lovely car to the auctioneers ready for the sale. A real piece of history & one I’m sure its new owners will enjoy driving.

May Issue…

The May issue of Classic Cars magazine drops on my doormat and there is a real surprise for me in store… another set of images in print. I’d shot this rare Crayford Cortina before the Lotus Elite and thought I’d missed seeing the publication come out.

The shoot with journalist, Richard Mason was for the ‘Life Cycle’ feature in Classic Cars Magazine
I had never seen a convertible Cortina before….

It was fascinating listening to the story of this car. Within weeks of being delivered brand new from the Ford factory, it was taken to have it’s roof chopped off!! A month later the original owner collected his very special pride and joy. I can imagine in 1976 it was a real head turner.

The car stayed with it’s original owner for 27 years until Mike bought it. Many miles and driving tours later brings us to 2021 and time for Mike to put the car up for auction. Via a roundabout route, incredibly the Cortina is returning to it’s original family!!

Time for a break, a coffee and a flick through Classic Cars…. be rude not to!!
